March 27, 2014 - Onondaga Community College in New York began educating the next generation of nuclear energy industry workers last fall when it became one of only 35 colleges in the country to offer an associate of applied science degree in nuclear energy technology. Learn More

September 29, 2012 - An education consortium comprised of five Arizona community colleges, formed as the Arizona Sun Corridor Get Into Energy Consortium (ASC-GIEC), received a $13.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to develop programs and help fulfill the state's energy industry workforce needs. The grant is part of the recent $500 million federal Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training (TAACCCT) initiative intended for the development and expansion of innovative training programs at community colleges and universities nationwide. Solis and Under Secretary of Education Martha Kanter announced nearly $500 million in grants to community colleges around the country for targeted training and workforce development to help economically dislocated workers who are changing careers. July 27, 2011 - A recent U.S. Department of Commerce report showed that science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) jobs grew at a faster rate than non-STEM jobs over the last decade, and that growth in STEM jobs is projected to grow at a faster rate (17 percent) than growth in non-STEM jobs (9.8 percent) between 2008 and 2018.
