APS signs Statement of Support with Arizona ESGR, USO

Big week for VETRN group wraps up with successful Veterans Day Parade

More than 50 national guardsmen and representatives from APS and the VETRN employee group were on hand recently to watch CEO Don Brandt sign a Statement of Support with Employee Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). Additionally, APS unveiled its robust sponsorship with USO Arizona.

According to Recruiter and VETRN Chair Anthony Herrera, APS will continue support of the USO in a number of areas, most notably in extensive volunteer support at the USO facility and events facilitated by the VETRN group.

“Today is a special day,” said Kelli Seely, Senior Vice President, Development and Chief Development Officer of the USO.” Not only has APS pledged to support the USO of Arizona in so many ways, but their commitment to provide $25,000 to build a facility for our staff and volunteers is a spectacular show of support to help us in our efforts to serve our troops and their families.”

The USO branch at Sky Harbor serves more than 50,000 soldiers annually. The new administrative facility will help them do even more. The APS sponsorship package with the USO includes:

  • $25,000 for administrative office construction
  • Vehicle donation with an APS and veteran-themed wrap
  • In-kind print and video production support
  • D-Backs and Suns tickets for troops and their families
  • VETRN member volunteer support

Community Development Manager and VETRN Co-Chair Nominee Steve Yamamori described the partnership as a genuine labor of love.

“This sprung out of our work in VETRN and the work I get to do in the area of community development,” he said. “We’re excited about our continued support of the USO. We are always looking at opportunities to give back to military personnel, and this partnership gives us a strategy and approach toward a number of issues in the military community.”

Brandt echoed Yamamori’s sentiment of how much the veteran community means to APS.

“I’ve always had personal, deep admiration for the men and women of the United States military,” said Brandt. “You make the American way of life possible and provide us with the security so much of us take for granted. APS employees share that sentiment and are excited at this opportunity to give back.”

2013 Phoenix Veterans Day Parade

A number of APS and Palo Verde veterans and employee volunteers were critical in the success of this year's Phoenix Veterans Day Parade. After the VA pulled its funding from the event, APS and other sponsors stepped up to make sure the parade would continue.
